It was fashionable for a time to deride the pleasure of Chardonnay, and sure there's the occasional oak against humanity gestures, but why disparage a whole category of wine based on the transgressions of a few?
Yes, California Chardonnays are unashamedly flavorful. We tend not to complain about too much flavor in most things, so how come some people bag on California? (Friendly rivalry?)
Just about anywhere wine is made, Chardonnay is made. Not necessarily a positive thing--we like to be picky about it.
